Fire, cooking & warmth
- Lighter + waterproof matches
- Blanket or sleeping bag per person
Carbon monoxide
Never run a propane stove or a generator indoors. Outdoors only, no exceptions.
☀️ Summer branch
- Battery/hand-crank fans
- Cooling towels
- Know your cooling-center / relocation option if indoor heat becomes unsafe
❄️ Winter branch
- Hand warmers, 4–6 pairs
- Extra wool blankets, per person
- Plan to consolidate family into one easy-to-heat room

- Fill the bathtub the moment you know an outage may run long (non-drinking use)
Hygiene
- Toilet paper
- Hand sanitizer
- Trash bags
School-age kids
- Each kid knows the family meeting point + one memorized contact number
- No-screen activities: cards, books, small games
- Comfort item per kid
Security & tools
- Doors/windows secured, exterior light checked
- Basic repair kit, tarp, duct tape
Keep this kit where a hand can find it in the dark — by the door or under the bed, not the attic — and make sure everyone in the house, kids included, knows where it is.
