⚡ Power Outage: Do Not Panic

The lights are only the first thing you lose. Protect food, temperature, communication, and safe movement.

The first 30 minutes

  1. Account for people — Know who's home and where they are.
  2. Get safe light — Headlamps or flashlights. Avoid candles when possible.
  3. Close cold storage — Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
  4. Save the phone — Low-power mode. One short check-in text.
  5. Plan for temperature — Layer up or move to the coolest safe area early.

Food safety window

Refrigerator holds about 4 hours closed. A full freezer holds about 48 hours closed.

Carbon monoxide Never use a generator, grill, camp stove, or fuel-burning heater inside a home, garage, or enclosed space.
